Crispy Bread Rolls
Hello Lovely Readers. Today I am going to share with you a delicious bread recipe. These Bread rolls have a crisp outer covering with spicy potato stuffing inside. You can either deep or shallow-fry the rolls. These can be eaten with tomato sauce as an evening snack or given to kids in tiffin.
Firstly, I have used white bread for this recipe but you can use whole wheat bread and it won't make any difference.
Ingredients (Serves 3):
- 4 medium-sized boiled potatoes
- bread slices
- 1/3 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garam masala powder
- salt as per taste
- 1/2 finely chopped onion
- 2 finely chopped green chilies
- finely chopped coriander
- 4-5 curry leaves
- oil
- water
Instructions:
- Peel the boiled potatoes and mash them thoroughly and keep aside.
- In a pan, add 1 tablespoon of oil and add the chopped onion. On medium flame, fry till they are translucent.
- Add chilies and curry leaves and stir-fry the mixture. (Note: Curry leaves are added for their distinctive smell. You can remove them before putting the stuffing in the bread.)
- Add turmeric, cumin, and red chili powder. Also, add salt as needed and stir.
- Now add the mashed potato and coriander and mix everything well.
- Our stuffing is ready! Put it aside for a few minutes to cool down and then make small to medium-sized rolls depending on your bread size.
- Take the bread slices and carefully remove the side crust using a knife.
- Add some water in a bowl and dip the bread slice completely without keeping it in water for more than a second. Otherwise, the bread will break.
- Squeeze out the excess water by pressing the bread gently with our fingertips.
- Put the stuffing in the middle and join the edges of the bread and seal the roll tightly from all sides otherwise, the stuffing will leak out while frying.
- Make the rolls with the remaining mixture.
- Now, heat oil in a wok/pan for shallow or deep frying. When the oil is hot, gently lower the rolls in the oil and fry till they are golden brown. Add rolls as per the size of the wok.
- Do note that the oil should be hot enough, otherwise, the bread will soak the oil and become greasy. In case of shallow frying, fry the roll from both sides till it becomes golden.
- Serve the bread while they are hot with tomato sauce.
- Enjoy!!!
